‘Above the Clouds’ is a musical ride inspired by the transcendent experience of flight, depicting the emotional trajectory of a journey from Hong Kong to the United Kingdom, as I, as an international student, began this life-changing journey, leaving behind the sounds of home to pursue new endeavours in a new land.

The piece opens with a serene introduction, capturing the anticipation and excitement of departure. As the music progresses and intensifies, it carries the listener through the thrilling journey upwards toward the endless skies above the clouds. The soaring melodies and expressive harmonies in the middle section depict the majestic horizons seen from the airplane window, where the earth below gradually disappears into a sea of clouds. Throughout the composition, listeners will be taken on a musical journey marked by moments of reflection, with shifting textures and rhythms mirroring the complexity of emotions felt as one embraces a new chapter in life.
