Biography
Pok Cheung (Timothy) Tsang is a music student at South College, Durham University, specialising in classical saxophone, orchestral conducting, and composing.
Born in 2005, Timothy started playing the saxophone at the age of 12 under Ms. Man Sze Tsang and obtained a licentiate diploma in saxophone performance (LTCL) five years later. Timothy has participated in numerous competitions and festivals, highlights include achieving 3rd prize at the 10th Larissa International Saxophone Festival (advanced category), Champion in the 2023 International Young Artist Music Contest, and Gold Prize in the 2022-23 Manchester International Music Competition. Timothy had his concerto debut at the age of 17 with the Munsang College Symphonic Band, and has since participated in masterclasses by various saxophone maestros, including Prof. Kyle Horch, Prof. Ryszard Zoledziewski, and Prof. Jinho Keem. Timothy is currently studying under the guidance of Prof. Sarah Markham.
At the age of 16, Timothy began his studies in conducting under Maestro Henry Shek. Since then, Timothy has refined his skills by participating in multiple conducting workshops and masterclasses, under the guidance of renowned conductors such as Maestro Günter Neuhold, Maestro Lior Shambadal, and Maestro Martin Sieghart. Timothy has also conducted various orchestras across Europe, such as the Prague Philharmonia, and the Berlin Sinfonietta. Timothy is currently serving as music director of VICI Harmonia, and conductor of Durham University Concert Band.
Additionally, Timothy found enthusiasm in composing under the guidance of Dr. Lee Kar-Tai Phoebus, and some of his award-winning works have since been performed by renowned ensembles such as the CONG Quartet. Moreover, Timothy is also keen on composing wind band music, with some of his wind band works being premiered by the Durham University Concert Band and were well received.
Timothy has performed on stages all across the globe, in venues such as the Ehrbar Saal in Vienna, the Hong Kong Cultural Centre, Durham Cathedral, and the KD Ládví in Prague. Timothy was also interviewed by RTHK Radio 4 in the programme ‘Musicians' Terrace’ about his musical Journey.
As a music educator, Timothy has developed a strong passion for teaching students with varying levels of skill and supporting them in the development of their music careers. Additionally, Timothy has always been keen on social service, participating in various charity music performances while also engaging in other social services.
